Supplementary Assessment Posters

According to the feedback from the presentation, I should redesign each spaces and my building structure was too simply. So I have decided redesign it, but more focus on section plan and how to show the use of each space and the quality of the whole building. The main space of this music centre is a performance theatre. There are several mucial exhibition rooms which will show the history of music and the mucial history of Woodford Folk Festival. There is a large screen above the main entrance, it can attract people come into the building when it shows the performance or introduction of exhibitions. I have combined those ideas what I got from all exemplars. I used different colors to show different spaces in 1:100 section plan. The lights, people and interior can show the function of each space. It also has some details of the structure in 1:100 section plan. I focused more on detail structures in 1:50 section plan, and that's why I keep it black and white to easily see the details of each space and each structure.

Supplementary Assessment Exemplar 5

(Peter, 1997, p.84-85)
This is a part of the section of Cite Internationale de Lyon. The reason of choosing it is that it gives me an idea of how to show the details of my theatre room. The detail structures are not very clear, so I will keep mine clearly in my sections, especially the 1:50 section.

Supplementary Assessment Exemplar 4

(Peter, 1997, p.65)
This is north-south section of Cy Twombly Gallery which designed by Renzo Piano. Before I found this section, I am not sure how detail the 1:50 section will be. This section shows the detail of the whole structure, even the lights. I will keep this way to draw my 1:50 section plan, and it will be as much details as this section.

Supplementary Assessment Exemplar 3

(Peter, 1997, p.55)

This is a cross section of Tate Gallery at Bankside which designed by Renzo Piano in 1995. This section attracted me is how it shows the gallery space and the movement of people inside the buidling. He made a choice to show more details of the spaces he thought are important. I will follow his idea of showing the galleries and the movement of people. I think I will show all details of my building as I believe they are all important.

Supplementary Assessment Exemplar 2

This is one of the sections of  the winner of the architecture competition for the new building of the International Dance and Music Centre in city of The Hague, The Nethlerands, among a field of 16 renowned international firms. I do like the way of using different color to show different spaces and function. So I think I will use this idea into my 1:100 section plan, and also they can be the color of the wall in each room.

Supplementary Assessment Exemplar 1

(Kenneth, 2006, p.238-239)
This is a section plan of Centre Georges Pompidou which designed by Richard Rogers. I like the way how it shows the function and qualiaty of each space by tinctorial people, furniture, inside structure, etc. It brings us a very intuitive feel of the whole building. We can easily know the function and the use of each space. I will imitate the way how it shows the function and qualiaty into my 1:100 section plan.

Week 15 Presentation

A1 Summary Poster

Feed back from tutors:
1) I should not think about the buidling form before arranging all the spaces, all spaces need to have their own reason and features.
2) The performance room can be improved
3) The ‘piano opening roof structure' can have some sort of function, not just for 'good looking'
4) I should put more bulding plans in the A1 summary poster

Week 11 Design Logs

Space arrangement design process.

Trying to figure out arrangements of all spaces and the relationship between each space. Also considering what the form of building look like.

About the shape of the building, I am thinking to make it looks like a grand piano. Piano is one of the most popular musical instruments in the world, widely used for solo performances, ensemble use, chamber music and accompaniment. Piano's versatility and ubiquity have made it one of the world's most familiar musical instruments. As result the Grand Piano is adapted into the design of the musical centre and be main musical attraction for the village.

Week 10 Design Logs

The final site location will be located in Festival Valley.

The Festival Valley is the centre of the village's attraction it has the easiest access to all other sectors, consist of many thing to do and see. The red area shows the location of the music centre, which is a large spatial area surrounding the building allowing these spaces to be occupied when needed. The building is surrounded by nature and is distinctive from the surrounding buildings. To emphasise the importance of the building.

Week 8 Design Logs

As woodfordia site has water shortage, so my last week idea is not suitable for our site, and Murray suggested me to focus on one thing, such as music. Design something about music is a good idea as musical performances are one of the most important attractive points in Woordford Folk Festival. And I will also keep one idea, 'not only having fun, but also learning something'.

So I came up this idea, Music Museum.

And my story will be a family (mom, dad, and two kids) come to Woodfordia Vacation Village in the weekend. After hard working durning week days, mom and dad want to get rid of urban life, they want to relax, have fun, and also they want their kids to learn something while playing. In Woodfordia Vacation Village, they are close to nature, they can feel the tranquility of nature. They are enjoying the natural living house, those entertainments and mucial performances. They visit the Music Museum and understand the mucial history in Woodford Folk Festival. And their kids also get some experience of musical instruments and primary education of instruments. After that, they buy some CDs for themselves, and a Ukulele for their kids. They have a happy and fulfilling weekend in Woodfordia Vacation Village.

Week 7 Design Logs

My story:
Under the influence of the financial crisis, the working pressure and pressure of life is growing in the future, people have to face on a daily boring and stressful work durning week days. They need to get rid of it in the weekends. They need to get away from urban life. They will be close to nature, to relax, to have fun, and also learn something in the Woodfordia Vacation Village.

So I am thinking to design a entertainment centre & cultural centre.

- leisure pool with water playground
- waterslides
- sports
- fitness room
- relaxing area
- food and drink
- music
- cultural art making
- cultural exhibition

Week 6 Reflection on our group's presentation

I believe we did a good job of this project. We showed our ideas by four posters themselves well. Started with the future problems in urban area, and then showed what the future in Woodfordia look like, and how we achieve our ideas.

Individual Project One Statement

The project one is a group work, I formed a group with Willy, Seno, and Rizki. We shared and discussed our ideas of four elements, future scenario, future sustainable, people and lifestyles in future, and architectural possibilities.

Future Scenario
The depletion of non-renewable resources will happen, but with the development of technology, we can use sustaiable energy as our main power. Because of increasing number of human, more and more lands are used for buildings, people have to live in high-rise buildings. And also people dependent too much on technology. Therefore, the lack of social communicaion and nature connection will be problems.

Future Sustainable
In the future, the Woodfordia site will be sustainable and natural enviroment for people who want to get away from urban life.  The site will achieve social, cultural, technological, economic, financial and business sustainability during the festival period and non-festival period.

People and Lifestyles
People living in Brisbane city have busy, stressful, unhealthy urban lives in 2050. Because of human growth, people need to work harder to deal with the competition from others. People dependent too much on high technology, so they do not do much exercises and attend social activities. Those problems are the reasons of why urban people need to come to Woodfordia site. In Woodfordia site, people can enjoy the natural scenery, communicate with other people, and have fun. That will help them to get rid of pressure and worries. There will be camping area, entertainment area, BBQ area, sports area, etc.

Architectural Possibilities
The quality of future life in Woodfordia will be achieved through sustainable architecture and resistant and cleansed urbanised environment. It will be an integration of architecture and the environment in Woodford site. Like termites and other nest-building insects, people will make buildings fit for Woodfordia environments in the future. In festival period, the Dubbed Portavilion stage structure sets up in a snap and can be easily deflated and packed up after the festival, saving on the manpower and resources required to erect a standard stage. In non-festival period, there will be some sustainable temporary structures for the vacation village, such as dwellings, shelters. They will be built by recycled materials and modular structures.

Project Logs: reflection on tutorial activity

From 4 weeks tutorial activities, we discussed social and cultural contexts, sustainable future, people and lifestyles, architectural possibilities as a group of four.  We were stucked on our future scenario, we had one, but after we talked with our tutors we found that it was inconsistent about the urban and nature concepts. From those tutorials, we discussed and found the directions of what we will show on our posters and how we gonna present our ideas. And our tutors gave us some directions and a lot of ideas to help us to understand this project and how to achieve our ideas. Those tutorial activities gave me a lot of ideas of what the future looks like, what the suitable architecture in the future, especially in our site. I believe it will very helpful for my next project.

Week 5 Architectural Possibilities Idea Development

The quality of future life will be achieved through sustainable architecture and resistant and cleansed urbanised environment. In my opinion, it will be an integration of architecture and the environment in Woodford site.

PERMANENT ARCHITECTURE

Biodynamic structures will be grafted onto genetically-engineered trees.

Like termites and other nest-building insects, people will make buildings fit for Woodfordia environments in the future.

TEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE IN FESTIVE PERIOD

This inflatable pavilion that will be popping up in parks throughout London this summer as a mobile event space. Dubbed Portavilion, the futuristic-looking bubble building sets up in a snap and can be easily deflated and packed up after each event, saving on the manpower and resources required to erect a standard stage.

TEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE IN NON-FESTIVE PERIOD

This hotel has 32 double rooms wicker in which you have to crawl through a circular opening inside. It conforms to the landscape, it winds around trees bridged, a bamboo forest and ends at the canal. can be built in three days and complete the environment tunes.

Week 5 Reading reflection on 'Architecture as a Dissident Practice'

Dissidence is primarily associated with architectural practices. Architecture is filled with changes, different forms repsent different concepts. That's the charm of being an architect and create the architectural world.
